New University Requirement for Data Protection

To ensure compliance with the many regulations that govern our vital research efforts, all University-affiliated researchers will soon need to complete a Data Protection Request Form to ensure projects have appropriate data security plans in place. This new University requirement will be in effect on Monday, Oct 11th, for all INITIAL IRB protocol submissions and data agreement requests requiring approval from the Office of Sponsored Programs.

This requirement will support retention of the University’s R1 status and bolster our long-term success. The automated form, developed through the collaboration of seven University departments, replaces manual processes that were confusing or non-existent. The new form should significantly reduce the time required for protocol and data agreement reviews and approvals.  Additionally, the form will notify the appropriate units for international research components and new software requirements.

Once you submit the form, you will receive an automatic email with a Low/Medium Risk Data Protection Certificate (PDF) within minutes, or you will receive notifications as the appropriate units review High-Risk requests. The Data Protection Certificate provides a summary of the request and includes next steps. Informational sessions are scheduled next week to address any questions or concerns you may have.

Register for a Q&A Info Session:
